Castles

Wales has over 600 castles and holds the distinction of having more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world.

If you are limited by time or transportation and can only visit one castle while in Wrexham, most will recommend you go to Chirk Castle. The grade I castle, with its gardens and surrounding parkland, is only ten miles from Wrexham. For more information on Chirk Castle Click Here

Northern Towns

There are many small towns in northern Wales with their own charm. I’ll mention two that have particular tourist value.

Llangollen

Wrexham residents repeatedly recommended, often insisted, and more than once offered to drive us to visit Llangollen. The town is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just eleven miles from Wrexham.

Conwy

A seaside town with a picturesque castle and city wall, just over an hour from Wrexham by car or train. The town is particularly known for mussels.

*NOTE: I would mention Chester, the former Roman fortress only 15-20 minutes from Wrexham…but this is a Guide about Wrexham, so obviously, it cannot include any positive statements regarding Chester

Southern Cities

If you travel through London or attend an away match down south, consider a visit to the southern Wales cities.

Cardiff is a better-known tourist attraction with its castle, city center, and university city energy. For city information Click Here

A trip to Swansea will likely get you a puzzled local look from Brits, but the small industrial, coastal city has its own charm. For city information Click Here
